A resilient Jannik Sinner defeats Pavel Kotov.

Sinner overcomes hip injury to reach Madrid quarter-finals for the first time

Despite battling an existing hip injury, a resilient Jannik Sinner managed to defeat Pavel Kotov in the second round of the ATP Madrid Open on Wednesday. The Italian, who is seeded eighth in the tournament, won 6-3, 6-4 to reach the quarter-finals for the first time in his career.

Sinner was in visible discomfort throughout the match and had to take a medical timeout in the first set. However, he played through the pain and produced some impressive tennis to overcome his Russian opponent.

Sinner will next face Khachanov in the quarter-finals. The Russian is also a former Grand Slam champion and will be a tough opponent for the Italian.

Sinner's victory in Madrid is a welcome boost for the 21-year-old, who has struggled with injuries in recent months. He will be hoping to continue his good form in the coming weeks and challenge for his first ATP Masters 1000 title.
